St. Peter’s College will look to bounce back from last week’s setback when they take on Science College in a key Inter-Schools Under-20 ‘A’ Division League Rugby Tournament fixture at the Air Force Grounds in Ratmalana on Saturday.
The former league champions are still recovering after they had the bitter experience of going down 7-11 against the unfancied Vidyartha College outfit at the Nittawela Stadium in Kandy.
That shock defeat has also pushed the Peterites to second place in the points table and they will now have a tough task in securing a place in the Cup Championship segment from Group-2.
In addition, St. Peter’s are struggling to field their best XV for this must-win game with a couple of key players still recovering following last week’s bruising encounter. In contrast, Science College will start the game brimming with confidence following a tremendous performance last week where they held the favourites Dharmaraja College to a thrilling 15-15 draw away from home.
Even during their opening fixture of the tournament, Science College gave a good account of themselves before going down 9-18 against the top-ranked Isipathana outfit at Havelock Park.
St. Joseph’s vs St. Anthony’s
After a couple of good performances under their belt, Science College would now look to deliver another stunning blow and probably emulate their heroics of 2015 where they triumphed over the Peterites under the captaincy of Lasindu Ishan by a convincing margin of 34-3 at Bambalapitiya. St. Joseph’s College will be determined to maintain their unbeaten record when they confront St. Anthony’s College in another Inter-Schools Under-20 ‘A’ Division League Rugby Tournament match at Havelock Park on Saturday The Joes have already recorded back-to-back victories against Kingswood College (34-3) and S. Thomas’ College respectively and will look to continue with the same form once again. Even then, the Antonians have proved that they could be worthy opponents this season following their impressive display against the much-fancied Trinity College outfit last week at the Nittawela Stadium in Kandy.
The Eagles certainly came closer to pulling off a surprise win after leading at one stage and they will look to draw inspiration from that game to bring down the formidable St. Joseph’s outfit.
