Three arrested for assaulting monk in habarakada

Athurugiriya police yesterday arrested three persons who were involved in the assault on the Chief Incumbent of a temple in Habarakada in front of a woman who was at the monk’s abode.

The suspects in the age group of 30 and 49 are residents of Habarakada in Homagama and a bus conductor is also among the suspects.

The Buddhist monk in question had not made a complaint to the police over this incident. However the police had initiated investigations after one of the suspects released a video on social media of the monk being assaulted. Police had also recorded a statement from the monk.

Police investigations have found five suspects were involved in the assault. It has been revealed that the woman who was beside the monk at the time of the incident was a paramour of one of the suspects.

The suspects were to be produced before the Homagama Magistrate’s Court.
