Man who stole five tear gas canisters arrested

A suspect was arrested with five tear gas canisters by the Western Province South Crime Division and handed over to the Welikada Police for further investigations.  

Police sources said the Welikada police was transporting a set of tear gas canisters on July13 on a three wheeler to the Polduwa junction where a protest of civil society activists was carried out.

A group from the protesters had stolen some tear gas canisters from the three wheeler near the Polduwa Junction on that day.

Western Province South Crime Division officers carried out investigations in connection with the incident and the suspect was arrested with five tear gas canisters at the house of the suspect in Ethul Kotte on Tuesday (26). The arrested suspect was identified as a 26-year-old resident of the Ethul Kotte area. The suspect was presented to the Aluthkade No. 04 Magistrate’s Court yesterday (27). Welikada Police is conducting further investigations.
