IUSF Convener, 13 arrested after march

Police yesterday arrested 14 university students including Inter University Student Federation Convener Wasantha Mudalige, after dispersing a protest march organized by the IUSF.

The protest march was proceeding from Town Hall towards Fort when the police blocked the march at Union Place after firing tear gas and water cannons.

Police said warrants have also been issued on IUSF Convener Wasantha Mudalige. Actor Jehan Appuhamy has also been arrested by a police team. But after handing him over to another police team, an investigation is underway regarding his release, a senior police officer said.

They gathered at Lipton’s Roundabout in the afternoon and planned to move towards Colombo Fort. Police dispersed the crowd by using water cannons and tear gas.
