Man caught robbing temple till in Kandy

A person, who was trying to break the till-box of the Bahiravakanda Sri Maha Bodhi Viharaya, Kandy, was caught and handed over to the police yesterday (1) at around 3 am by the Viharadhipathi Thera and several other people.

At the time of breaking the lock on the till box of the temple, the Chief monk of the temple had heard the sound. While investigating, the Thera saw a person hiding inside the Viharaya. Then the Thero, with the assistance of other monks and several people, who were staying at the temple, had caught the suspect and handed over to the police. The police have found, Rs. 4,290 in the possession of the suspect, which was stolen from the shrine room.

The suspect, who is a resident of Thanamalwila area, has been remanded till September 12 after being produced before the Kandy Magistrate’s Court yesterday (31).
