Turtle abattoir raided in Beruwala

Aluthgama Police yesterday arrested a suspect involved in a racket of killing Indian Flapshell turtles for meat at a house in Dharga Town, Beruwala. Police also took into custody 7.02 kg of tortoise meat and four knives from the house. A senior police officer who raided the house said the suspect had brought turtles from brokers at a low price to be killed for meat. The two arrested suspects are to be produced before the Kalutara Magistrate today.
