Thomian stickers take Abeynaike Trophy

S. Thomas’ College Mount Lavinia emerged winners by beating Royal College Colombo by 1- 0 in their 21st annual Hockey encounter, played for the Orville Abeynaike memorial trophy at the Astro Turf, Reid Avenue, yesterday.

With both teams evenly balanced, S. Thomas’ College sticker J.J. David, standing inside the 25 yards circle, who got an opportunity from a long hit made no mistake to deflect the ball into the net in the 11th minute to give them a 1- 0 lead at half time. Royal College made several attempts to score in the second half, but S. Thomas’ College defence stood strongly to hold the Royal College forwards till the last whistle to emerge winners.

In the under 16 match, S Thomas’ College beat Royal College by 3-2, with R. Shankar, R.L.B. Kiridena and T.A. Hezbullah scoring for the winners.
