Lochana de Silva and Nadeesha Gayathri clinched triple crowns at the Uva Provincial Open All Island Badminton Championship at the S. Thomas’ College Indoor Sports Complex in Bandarawela over the week end .
Gayathri the experience Shutter from HNB beat Anjalee Jayasundara in the women’s open final with two straight sets (21-12, 21-12) before teaming up with Kavindika De Silva to defeat Chamya Nirmali and Kethaki Wedamulla 21-12, 21-6 in the doubles final. Gayathri then clinched her third gold in when she teamed up with Lochana to get the better of Hansa De Silva and Chamya Nirmali (21-12, 21-9) in the mixed doubles final.
In the men’s finals, Lochana beat Jason Homer (21-18, 18-21, 21-12) and also bagged the men’s doubles title when he partnered with Rashintha de Silva to beat Diniru Rashmitha and Lahiru Weerasinghe in straight sets (21-16, 22-20) before winning the mixed doubles with Gayathri to complete his triple.
Mihila Jayaweera won the boys under 15 while Sanuthi Gurusinghe clinched the girls under 15 title .Akindu Jayatilleka and Abhimani Padmabandara won the boys and girls under 17 titles .Sihilel Abhishek beat Yulan de Silva to win the boys under 19 title while Nethanga Pallitaguru defeated Anjali Jayasaddunu to win the girls under 19 title at the final.
Aruna Crishantha win the mens over 55 final while Vikram Bashin won the mens over 45 title .Daminda de Silva clinched the mens over 40 title while Kalhara Gamage won the mens over 35 title .Roshan Padmakumara won the mens over 30 final .
Sri Lanka Badminton President Rohan De Silva, S. Thomas’ College Bandarawela Head Master Rev. Father Christopher Balraj and chief organiser Thilak Jayasiri were the special guests at the awards ceremony. This was very successful tournament which conducted by the Uva Province BA while SLB gave fine support to success.
