“All nine athletes are busy with their coaches and they are totally focussed on their events in order to win medals for the country,” he emphasised.
“Here in Tokyo, the organisers have provided the Para Athletes with the best of facilities and they are performing their duties under strict COVID-19 regulations.”
“All our athletes are very safe at the Olympic Village and they go out only for their training,” Herath stressed.
“Sri Lanka’s hopes of fielding a bigger contingent for the Tokyo Games were hampered by travel restrictions caused by the global pandemic resulting in some elite athletes missing out on qualification.”
“We were not fortunate to compete at international events. If we had participated, we could have sent more athletes. We missed a few international tournaments during the last four months.”
“All nine athletes have worked hard to do what it takes to climb the podium and hence, we are confident on securing more medals in Tokyo,” Herath concluded.
