Seven more records were established on penultimate day (4th day) to complete 19 records at the All Island School Games held at Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo yesterday.

The highlight of the day, Junior National athlete Tharushi Karunaratne of Walla A. Ratnayake MV once again set up a new meet record of 400m with a time of 54.22 secondS at the girls under 20 event. Tharushi who excelled on the day three with a 800m new record came back strongly to set up her second record of the meet.

Udeshani Weerasinghe of Princess of Wales Moratuwa set up a new meet record in under 16 javelin throw with a distance of 38.71 m while Wickramabahu National school Gampola athlete W.M.K.N Wickramasinghe established girls under 18, 800 m record with a time of 13.09 seconds.

Swarnanamali girls school Kandy sprinter S.B.S.L Dissnayake finished with 14.55 seconds to set up girls under 20 new 100m record.

The only new relay event meet record was set up by Walala A. Ratnayake MV 4X400 M girls under 20 team with a time of three minutes 53.82 seconds. Meanwhile Thushan Kumaranayake of Hambantota North Kanumuldeniya National School created his second meet record of the meet as he finished boys’ under 14, 80m with 9.64 seconds. The previous day Kumaranayke established 100m record.

Dineth Weeraratne of Leeds International School who set up 100m record on previous day set up the 200m record with a timing of 21.73 seconds. A.K Koorala of Yosheeda International school Sapugaskanda was able to set up boys under 20 triple jump new meet record with a distance of 15.59m.

Hemantha Premathilleka the Additional Secretary to the Education Ministry said 19 meet records from four days are very good achievement.

According to the officials of the Schools Athletic Association Lyceum International Wattla and Walala A. Ratnayake MV are on top from boys and girls section after four days of competition.

Today the final day of the meet will feature more sprint events while Susil Prem Jayantha the Education Minister, State Minister of Piriven Education Vijitha Berugoda, State Minister of Education Aravinda Kumar and Higher Education State Minister Dr Surendra Ragawan will be the special guests at the closing ceremony.
