Colombo Chief Magistrate Nandana Amarasinghe yesterday directed the investigations into the incident where a person claiming to be from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) is alleged to have taken gold pieces from the Court Production Room, to the Criminal Investigations Department.
The Keselwatta Police stated that the aforesaid suspect had brought a few gold pieces worth nearly Rs.10 million from the production room to submit it before the Jewellery Authority and check whether they are gold. The Magistrate made this order subsequent to the submissions made by the Keselwatta Police. The Investigation had been launched following a complaint lodged by the Registrar of the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court. Accordingly, the temporary trustee of the production room had released 48.5 pounds and 388 grams of gold to the said Police officer. The temporary officer of the production room had released those gold items to the said police constable who came with a court order on Last November 23.Police informed the Magistrate that the order presented to the production room to get the said goods was a photocopy.
