State Minister of Ports and Aviation Premalal Jayasekara said in Parliament yesterday (05) that around 75 percent of the development work of Kankesanthurai Port (KKS) has been completed.
This will help strengthen ties with India while attracting more tourists. The State Minister was speaking during the debate on the Expenditure Head of the Ministry of Ports and Aviation.
Commenting on the Palali airport, State Minister Jayasekara said that the first flight to Palali after the recommencement of operations, which were suspended due to the COVID pandemic will arrive from India on December 12. He said that through this, economic progress can be achieved by establishing close relations between the Northern and Eastern Provinces and India. The work of extending the runway has also commenced and they hope to start a pilot school to train pilots at the Batticaloa airport.
The State Minister said that port and air services are institutions that can contribute a lot to the economy and these institutions can play a big role in the country’s development.
