The CH and FC produced a superb second half rally to beat Navy SC 34-20 in their SLR Nippon Paint Inter-Club League Rugby Tournament first-round match played at the Race Course Grounds in Colombo yesterday. The CH and FC went into half time with a slender lead of 17-13 but they got their act together well after the turnaround to score twice before securing the win by a more convincing margin.
CH and FC were reduced to 13-men during the last few minutes of the game, following three yellow cards but they held on determinedly and went on to collect their points from four goals and two penalties.
Samuel Ogbebor, Prasad Madushanka, Soorya Dodangoda and Anjula Hettiarachchi scored a try each for the CH and FC with Rohitha Rajapaksa converting all four tries and fired two penalties.
Navy SC, of course, kept their hopes alive with a fighting performance but eventually fell short as they managed to score only a goal, two tries and one penalty. Dimuth Perera, Isuru Kongahawatte and Mushin Faleel scored a try each for the Sailors while the former converted one try and put over a penalty while Thilina Weerasinghe added the extra points for the third try.
Army SC v Police SC
Meanwhile, Army SC snatched a thrilling 25-23 victory over Police SC in another SLR Nippon Paint Inter-Club League Rugby Tournament first-round match played at Ratmalana yesterday. Army SC collected their points from one goal, three tries and one penalty after leading 12-10 at half time while Police SC responded with two goals and three penalties.
