Defending champions Kandy SC will face an acid test when they take on CR and FC in their SLR Nippon Paint Inter-Club League Rugby Tournament match at Longden Place today. The kick-off is at 3.30 p.m.
Both teams had a winning start to their league campaign with Kandy SC overcoming Army SC 46-8 at the Nittawela Stadium and the CR and FC edged out their traditional rivals Havelock SC 23-21 at Havelock Park.
Kandy SC, of course, will start as the favourites with a formidable line-up as they look to keep the momentum having planted eight tries in their opening match of the tournament.
However, this time Kandy SC will be up against a more inspired CR and FC outfit, which displayed tremendous determination to snatch an exciting victory against the Havies last week.
Kandy SC have dominated CR and FC over the years and last season they cruised to a massive 45-26 victory at the Nittawela Stadium. The closest CR and FC have come to defeating Kandy SC was way back in 2016 where they went down fighting 12-15 in the League Tournament and once again, they lost a thriller 28-31 in the Clifford Cup final, both matches played at the Nittawela Stadium.
