Attack on former Peradeniya VC, son handed over to CID

Further investigations into the attack on the former Peradeniya University Vice-Chancellor and his son have been handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department on the orders of the Inspector General. This is because of allegations that the investigation regarding the incident done by the Peradeniya Police was not satisfactory. Former Vice-Chancellor Senior Professor Athula Senaratne also voiced his concerns regarding the investigation recently while holding a press conference.

Twelve students were arrested by the Peradeniya Police in connection with this assault and were remanded.

They are to be presented for an identification parade. On the part of the university students, there is an accusation against the police that even a student who had nothing to do with the incident and who was not even present in the university premises on the particular day was arrested by the police and remanded. The students alleged that the arrest was made without proper investigation.

Paying special attention to all that, the Inspector General of Police has handed over this investigation to the Criminal Investigation Department.
