Trinity College emerge group champs
Kandy schools under 20 “B” division football tournament took place at Trinity College rugby grounds at Pallekelle. Trinity College emerged as the group champions.
In the first game, they beat their rivals St. Anthony’s College by 13 goals to 1, thanks to goal scores Mohammed Shan (4 goals), Yewan Hulangamuwa (3 goals) and Akshee Mahadivulwewa (3 goals), Stephen Asher (2 goals) and Sharun Ravikumar (1 goal).
In the second game beat Wariyapola Sri Sumangala College by 4 goals to 1, the goals were scored by Dev Karavita (2 goals), Mohammed Shan (1 goal) and Pavithran Abhisekh (1 goal).
The third game against St. Sylvester’s College was a two-all draw, the goals cores were Vevash Muraleedaran (1 goal) and Pavithran Abhisekh (1 goal).
In their fourth match, they emerged winners against Dharmaraja College by scoring 05 goals to – 00. The goals were scored by Dev Karavita (1 goal), Yewan Hulangamuwa (1 goal), Pavithran Abhisekh (1 goal), Rashode Kumaratunge (1 goal) and Vevash Muraleedaran (1 goal).
A big hand should go to coach Sanoj Srinath for his good work and also to Kusal Perera MIC for his good support.
New coach for Vidyartha rugby
Vidyartha College which are in rugby known as ‘Tigers’, has got Buddihka Abeyasinghe as their new rugger coach, he takes over from Nalin Wijesinghe who has gone overseas. Buddhika Abeyasinghe was a talented player during his school days at Vidyartha College and led the school in 2007 and also played for the Sri Lanka schools side in 2005 and 2006.
Buddhika Abeyasinghe at club level played for Kandy Sports Club and Air Force and later took up coaching and gave a big hand to Trinity College and Dharmaraja College. Vidyartha College has a knowledgeable ruggerite as the consultant coach Ananda “Kastro” Kasthuriarachchi. These two are sure to give their best and give a big hand for Vidyartha College rugby with the other coaches Anush Kolinne the (backs coach), Roshan Hemantha (trainer). This school has a history of playing Rugby since 1952 and has produced many National Players and has helped Kandy SC, Kandy Lake Club, Kandy RFC and forces with top players in the early years.
