Soldier arrested for obstructing duties of PHIs

Polpithigama Police arrested an Army personnel on Wednesday (21) evening for obstructing the duty of Public Health Inspectors who were engaged in inspecting restaurants and hotels in the Polpithigama Town.

The 20-year-old soldier is a resident of Millagoda, Polpithigama serving in Jaffna. Police say that the suspect was on holiday and was smoking a cigarette in front of a hotel.

Police said that the Public Health Inspectors who inspected the hotel at that time also informed the soldier not to smoke in public to which he reacted angrily.

He was arrested on a complaint made by the Public Health Inspectors to the Police.
