The Police Department yesterday interdicted a Police Constable who had behaved in a disruptive manner during a musical show conducted at the Galle Face Green, Colombo under the influence of alcohol and had assaulted two police officers on duty in the early morning of December 28.
The constable is attached to the Boralanda Police Training College and he had been called for special duty in Colombo for the festive season.
As reported, this officer who was on day-time duty on December 27 had participated in this musical show in civvies on the same night with several other colleagues. The suspect was drunk at the moment, police investigations have revealed.
During the show in the early morning on December 28, he had got into the stage where the music band was playing and had assaulted two officers on duty when they attempted to remove him from the stage. One officer is sustaining injuries to his mouth and has been admitted to hospital, police said.
Following the incident, police had arrested the suspect and had produced him before the Fort Magistrate’s Court on December 28. The court has released the suspect on bail and the case is due to be taken up again on January 13, the Fort Police said.
