Schaffter’s murder: Sleuths look out for man who sped crime scene

The Homicide and Organized Crime Investigation Division officers of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) have launched an extensive investigation to find out who the person who sped away from the car where Janashakthi Group Director, Dinesh Schaffter, was found murdered at the Borella Cemetery.

This investigation is based on a statement given by a cemetery employee that he saw the person who was standing near the car where Dinesh Schaffter was killed and that he was a thin, tall person   and that he went from near the car towards the crematorium at the back of the cemetery. When CID officials asked the cemetery worker for information, he said that if he saw the person again, he could identify him and that the individual was wearing pants and a shirt. Accordingly, by identifying that person, it will be possible to reveal many details regarding the murder of Dinesh Schaffter, a senior police officer said.

Only three people saw Dinesh Schaffter the victim of the crime in the cemetery.They were Krish Perera and two cemetery workers. It has now become clear through the statements given by them to the police, that there was a wire around the body of Dinesh Schaffter which they had managed to remove. Also, it appears from their statements that Dinesh Schaffter was placed in the seat next to the driver’s seat and taken to the Colombo National Hospital with his hands still tied together with cables intact since it was not possible to remove them. It is stated that the officers of the Homicide and Organized Crime Investigation Division of the Criminal Investigation Department are continuing extensive investigations into the murder of Dinesh Schaffter and are working hard to solve this crime.Information from the Criminal Investigation Department stated that further investigations are going on, based on expert evidence regarding the several cable ties found in Dinesh Schaffter’s house as well as the antenna wire found in the house similar to the antenna wire around his body.

CID information also stated that in this investigation, special attention has been paid to the phone messages exchanged on Dinesh Schaffter’s mobile phone, text messages exchanged on social media including WhatsApp and messages exchanged with his wife and mother-in-law’s mobile phones.
