Lanza accepts Ranjan’s apology in lieu of damages

The case filed in the Negombo District Court by former State Minister Nimal Lanza against former Deputy Minister Ranjan Ramanayake demanding compensation of Rs. 1,000 million was settled on Wednesday before Additional District Judge Nuwan Tharaka Heenatigala.

The former State Minister had filed this case against Ramanayake seeking compensation for the damage caused to his reputation due to a statement made by Ramanayake at a meeting held at Leighton Park in Negombo on March 26, 2014.

When the case was called before the Additional Magistrate on Wednesday, the lawyer who appeared for Ramanayake expressed regret if his client’s speech had hurt Lanza, whereupon Lanza stated that he accepted the apology and requested the court to conclude the case.
