Speeding car kills daughter, mother critical in Punewa

Punewa Police said that a 13-year-old girl died in a car accident in the Mahakumbugollewa area on the Medawachchiya, Vavuniya main road and the girl’s mother was seriously   injured in the accident and is undergoing treatment at the intensive care unit of the Vavuniya Hospital. The deceased has been identified as Dilanka Sandamini Bandara, a Grade six student of the Medawachchiya National School and a resident of Punewa. The mother and daughter was hit by a speeding car, when they were waiting for a bus.

A 36 year old man, the driver of the car has been arrested. Police say reckless driving was the cause of the accident.
