Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Namal Karunaratne, said that funds will be provided to farmers who have not yet received the fertiliser subsidy within the next few days.

The Deputy Minister made this statement in response to an oral question raised by MP Hesha Vithanage in Parliament yesterday (18).

He assured that all issues related to the fertiliser subsidy will be resolved by the next cultivation season and expressed confidence that a new era would emerge where farmers would take a leading role.

The Deputy Minister further emphasised that no decision has been made to handover Government-owned farmland to foreign companies.

He assured that steps would never be taken that could result in the loss of Government-owned farmland. Instead, discussions will focus on involving local entrepreneurs in farmland development under the Government’s guidance.

He also stated that all farmland must be fertilised and transformed into productive, income-generating assets, with the Government playing an active role in achieving this goal.
