Thirty six T-56 firearms issued to soldiers of the Army Military Intelligence Corps Regimental Headquarters at Karandeniya was taken into custody by the police after the sniffer dog used by police in the investigation into shooting to death of a person on Friday evening in Middaramulla area of Ahungalla had walked into the camp.

The office of the Deputy Inspector General of Galle said the T-56 weapons issued to the soldiers on duty on the day of the murder were taken into custody for an inspection. 

Tharindu Dhanushka Silva, a resident of Amaramoli Mawatha, Ahungalla, Middaramulla, was shot by two unknown persons on a motorcycle while he was riding a motorcycle with his sister’s two children at around 6 pm.

He died after being admitted to Balapitiya Hospital and the two children aged five years and one and a half years old who fell from the motorcycle after the gun attack were also injured and admitted to the Balapitiya Hospital.

Meanwhile, on Saturday evening, the police found the motorcycle that the suspects had used to come for the murder lying in a land near the Army Intelligence Unit in Arawwala, Karandeniya. Later, during the investigation, the sniffer dog had entered the military camp and 36 T-56 firearms issued to the soldiers on duty that day were taken into police custody.

A senior police officer said that the Balapitiya Magistrate’s Court will present the firearms to the Government Analyst.
