The AIA insurance has decided to continue its donation of Rs.100 on on behalf of every new insurance policy to the Sri Lanka Cancer Society (SLCS) to provide medical facilities to cancer patients in the country.
The AIA signed up this charity to celebrate its centennial year in 2019. AIA’s CEO Chathuri Munaweera said as cancer patients and their families need specialized treatment, dedicated care and a strong support, the AIA has decided to continue this helping programme. SLCS Chairperson Anoja Karunaratne said it is a privilege and honour to have a company that supports the SLCS and appreciated the service rendered by the AIA despite the dire economic challenges.
“AIA also provides financial support to us and it is an immense strength to us,” she said. She said the SLCS which was established in 1948 is a voluntary, non- government and non -profit organization that is engaged in the work of the National Cancer Programme. AIA Insurance is a leading Life Insurer in Sri Lanka and deeply committed to contributing towards the betterment of the Sri Lankan economy and society at large.
SLCS also highlighted the unstinting assistance extended by AIA and its Team to SLCS and said the funds donated by AIA over the years are being used for needy cancer patients and also to create awareness on the prevention and treatment of cancer which is a rapidly growing concern in Sri Lanka.
AIA and SLCS also continuously support patients and their families who are suffering from Cancers. Patients who require long term treatment at Apeksha Hospital are provided free accommodation at the Bandaranaike Memorial Cancer Homes run by the SLCS at Maharagama. The home has 80 beds and 5 rooms and maintains a 34 bed Hospice for terminally ill patients.
In addition SLCS Public Education officers conduct awareness seminars at factories and other formal and informal establishments in the country. SLCS also offers public education programmes via Zoom MS Teams and Google.
