All Sri Lankans should unite to rebuild the country – Dr. Rajapakshe

To transform our country into a debt-free prosperous nation that belongs to all its citizens of all races and religions, people must stop attacking each other and be united to make Sri Lanka a disciplined, formal country (vidimath ratak), National Democratic Front (NDF) Presidential Candidate Dr. Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe, PC, said.

Dr. Rajapakshe was speaking at a special ceremony to launch his four books, including an autobiography with his poems themed Panhindak Asipathak (A Pen, A Sword) on Tuesday (10) in Colombo.

He said that a pen can be used to cut and create, while a sword can be used only for cutting and his life, from a humble upbringing in his childhood to the present day, to become a President’s Counsel, resonates with the theme of this book to showcase the severe hardship he went through coming from a village to Colombo to achieve the impossible.

Dr. Rajapakshe said that he has never compromised his principles in order to gain any type of personal or political benefit throughout his lifetime and will never do so even in the future. He said that he has been ousted from Parliamentary positions including from the Cabinet, on numerous occasions because he spoke out against corrupt practices.

Dr. Rajapakshe said that when the then government collapsed in May 2022 and when the opposition refused to take over the government, he became a part of the new government and joined in the task of re-building the country.

He said that he was instrumental in drafting laws and Acts and more than 90 such laws developed by him for the good governance and rebuilding of country’s economy were approved and implemented while he was the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs and another 60 such laws are in the pipeline to get approval for implementation.
