Ambassador designate to Saudi Arabia, Ameer Ajwad to promote bilateral ties
Sri Lanka’s Ambassador designate to Saudi Arabia, Ameer Ajwad on Monday (11) said he is trying his utmost to promote bilateral ties between Saudi Arabia and Sri Lanka, during his tenure.
Ajwad, a career diplomat who held a number of key diplomatic postings overseas, said that Saudi Arbia has achieved unprecedented development in the realm of economic, industry and many other fields.
“Having closer ties with Saudi Arabia will definitely be beneficial to Sri Lanka.”
He was speaking at a reception hosted by the ‘Colombo Times’ at Kingsbury Hotel on Monday (11).
Foreign Minister Ali Sabry presented a special memento to Ajwad, wishing him all well in his new assignment. Ajwad, who joined the Sri Lanka Foreign Service in 1998, had served as Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to the Sultanate of Oman, High Commissioner to Singapore and Brunei Darussalam , and Director General for East Asia and Pacific Affairs at the Foreign Ministry.
Chief Editor of ‘Colombo Times’, Mohammed Rasooldeen in his speech, elaborated how Ambassador Ajwad was dedicated to promote Saudi – Sri Lanka ties, when the latter was serving at Sri Lanka’s Mission in Riyadh, as Deputy Head of Mission.
Rasooldeen, a Senior Journalist who was once Daily News correspondent in Riyadh, said that Ajwad has always shown his commitment to promote Sri Lanka wherever he served as its Ambassador.
Ambassadors of Vietnam and Nepal and High Commissioners of Bangladesh and Indonesia were present on this occasion.
Additional Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, U.L. Jouhar, Chairman of the Traveller Global, Rizmy Reyal and Senior Vice President of Macksons Group, Nilrukshi De Silva, and Media Personnel were also present.
