In this year’s All-Island School Basketball Tournament, St. Peter’s College, Colombo, won the under-20 championship. but Ananda College Colombo got more attention, because Ananda has not had such an opportunity for more than two decades in the history of All- Island School Basketball. They lost in a tough fight because the score were 53-54.
In the final match, which took a sharp turn, the runners up Ananda team was better than the victorious St. Peter’s team. Former Ananda basketball members pointed out that this will be a turning point in Ananda basketball.
St. Peter’s College qualified for the final match of this tournament held at the Royal College Colombo basketball court by defeating Mahinda College Galle with a score of 80-33.
Ananda entered the final match by defeating St. Thomas College Mount Lavinia with a score of 59-45. In the final match, the most deserving ones have made it clear that both these colleges played side by side in a competition and inspiration to the basketball fans.
This shows the under-20 Ananda Vidyalaya basketball team that gave Ananda an opportunity that had been lost for more than two decades. The team was supervised by Principal . D. M. L. P. Dissanayake, Under his direction Mrs. Deepani Bogahalanda was assigned to work as teacher in charge.. . Shanta Sirisuriya – head coach,.
