“Aragalaya” led to escalation of underworld, drugs – Minister

Public Security Minister Tiran Alles said in Parliament yesterday that the “Aragalaya “ has led to the development of underworld activities and drugs in Sri Lanka.

He stated that the Police had to pay full attention to the struggle and related incidents for about a year, and because of that Police officers were unable to engage in other activities.

“During this period, drugs and underworld activities had increased. Systematic work is being done to combat the underworld and drugs gradually.”

He said that there are more than 20,000 vacancies in the Police Department and the vacancies will be filled step by step due to the economic crisis. “We have recruited 2,000 Police officers this year. We have planned to recruit 5,000 Police officers next year as well,” he said.
