Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs Minister Vidura Wickramanayake said (28) in Parliament yesterday that he will work on appointing a permanent Director General of Archeology as soon as possible.
The Minister said this while answering an oral question addressed by MP Jayantha Samaraweera. The Minister also said that the Cabinet has approved the appointment of a Director General of Archaeology. He also mentioned that the Minister has no authority to appoint the Commissioner General of Archaeology. Accordingly, the minister said that he will work to publish a newspaper advertisement.
The Minister said that the Department of Archeology has identified 45 archaeological sites. The number of archaeological sites published in the Gazette is 136.
