Attanagalle Magistrate Manjula Karunaratne issued a warrant yesterday afternoon (16) to immediately arrest a Judicial Medical Officer (JMO) who did not appear before court to submit the medical report of a post-mortem investigation related to a murder. A warrant has been issued for the immediate arrest of B.C.S. Perera, a Judicial Medical Officer who had been working at the Gampaha Base Hospital four years ago.Mirigama Police were ordered to execute the warrant immediately.
A woman named K.P. Ganga Madhubashini, a resident of Thilinagama in the Mirigama police division, was murdered in her house on 18.09.2018.
The post-mortem examination was conducted at the Gampaha Base Hospital by JMO B.C.S.Perera, who was working there at the time.
When the case was brought before court on several occasions before this, summons had been issued to this JMO to appear before court to present the medical report related to the post-mortem examination to the court. As he did not appear before the court according to the summons, warrants were issued on an earlier date.
When the case was taken up for hearing yesterday (16) once again, the Officer-In-Charge of the case operation division of the Mirigama police, Inspector E. G. S. P. Subasinghe stated that the JMO was not present and that the warrant could not be executed due to the difficulty in finding the exact place where he works.
The police inspector further stated that he has received information that the doctor is currently working in the Polonnaruwa area.
Subsequent to the statements made by the police, the magistrate mentioning the facts immediately issued a warrant for the JMO’s arrest.
The Mirigama Police was also ordered to execute the warrant immediately and arrest the doctor and produce him in court. Re-convening of the case was adjourned to April 6.
