Assistant priest held for theft at head priest’s house

The Hatton Police, who conducted an investigation into the burglary of the house of the head priest of the Muttumari Amman temple in Dick-Oya, arrested the assistant priest of the same temple on suspicion of the burglary, yesterday (19) evening.

The theft happened on Monday morning (19). A gold necklace worth Rs. 175,000 and Rs.175,000 in cash were stolen from the cupboard in a room of the house.

The investigation revealed that the assistant priest had committed the theft while the head priest was conducting the puja in the temple.
