
A bus driver was killed and several others injured in a road accident reported in the Haldummulla police area, police said.
The incident occurred on the morning of January 18 in the Kalupahana area when a private bus travelling from Colombo to Welimada lost control and crashed into a wall before overturning. Police said the driver had attempted to close an open door near his seat when he lost control of the vehicle.
The driver, a 49-year-old resident of the Dehiwitta–Atampitiya area, died after being admitted to the Haldummulla Hospital. The conductor, an 11-year-old boy, a woman and four other passengers were injured in the accident.
