Australia extend lead in second Ashes Test

Australia extended their overall lead beyond 170 runs as they reached 80 for one wicket in their second innings at tea on the third day of the second Ashes Test match against England at Lord’s in London yesterday.

Usman Khawaja was batting on 45 having struck nine boundaries while England’s only success in this session was the wicket of David Warner after the openers had put on 63 runs.

Earlier, England slumped from their overnight score of 278 for four to 325 all out in reply to Australia’s first innings total of 416 runs. Skipper Ben Stokes was caught at gully off the second ball of the day while Harry Brook was dismissed following a leading edge for a well-compiled half century which included four boundaries.

Paceman Mitchell Starc was the most successful bowler for Australia with three wickets while part-time spinner Travis Head claimed two for 17.
