Best SLAF man and woman 2022 receive Excellence Awards
The Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) Excellence Awards ceremony 2022 was held at the Eagles’ Lagoon View Banquet Hall, Katunayake on March 15 under the patronage of Air Force Commander Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana. Outstanding Airmen and Airwomen were recognised and appreciated to motivate them to achieve higher targets.
The ceremony commenced illuminating the oil lamp and observing two minutes silence. The SLAF Dancing Troupe presented cultural acts. The Commander and other dignitaries were welcomed by Organising Committee Chairman Air Vice Marshal Lasitha Sumanaweera. The Commander addressed the audience after the trophies were awarded, praising the honoured during the ceremony.
The finalists were nominated for consideration and further selection was done by an independent panel appointed by the Commander to honour them as outstanding performers in each trade and for their contribution for developing the SLAF during 2022. The candidates who obtain the highest points are awarded the Most Outstanding Airman and Airwoman trophies along with attractive cash rewards.
Warrant Officer RGS Priyankara (Catering Specialist) from the No. 1 Leisure and Recreation Wing at the SLAF Academy China Bay and Corporal Lakshika AP (Ground Stewardess Assistant) from the Officers’ Mess at the SLAF Base Katunayake were named the Most Outstanding Airman and Airwoman 2022.
The team from the Air Defence Radar Squadron from the SLAF Station Mirigama won the Best Research Team award. The team won this award for its research on an Air Defence Simulator System at the Air Defence Operation Centre.
The award for the Best Quality Control Circle (QCC) was won by the QCC titled Diya Pibiduma-Pure water runs life-by the SLAF Combat Training School in Diyatalawa. The Best Environment Management Project 2022 Award was secured by the Palavi Air Force Station.
The Chief of Staff, Air Force Board of Management members, SLAF senior officers, officers, other ranks and family members were present.
