Blue Green Alliance questions negative sentiments expressed over renewable energy projects
The Sri Lanka Blue Green Alliance that promotes sustainable energy and community welfare at a press briefing in Colombo questioned negative sentiments expressed by several politicians on ‘bid pricing’ for investments into renewable energy projects in Sri Lanka.
Secretary of the Sri Lanka Blue Green Alliance Rajitha Abeygunasekera, stated that the main aim of their organization was to promote green economy and green energy. “It is vital that we as an island nation utilise our natural resources to the greatest extent. Renewable energy is of utmost importance with regards to this.”
There were many items discussed in parliament regarding this recently and a former Minister of Highways, Higher Education and Investment Promotion and representing the Kegalle district has asked for the Adani Group’s 500 MW project to be delayed since the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has called for tenders for a 50 MW project to be added to the national grid. The former Minister has stated that he learned of a proposed unit price of 7 cents (USD) through these tenders and the statement poses risks. There’s both a potential loss of the 500 MW project as well as a threat to bidder confidence in our procurement procedures for the 50 MW project with a price reveal as such.
“This statement appears to be a mere political maneuver, lacking substance.Consequently, the Blue-Green Alliance views it as unfounded and detrimental for the citizens of the country. As the Sri Lanka Blue Green Alliance continues to spearhead meaningful dialogues and advocate for progressive policies we condemn such irresponsible statements.”
