BOC ventures into Future of Agriculture

In a strategic move to foster innovation and drive agricultural transformation, the Bank of Ceylon (BOC) has forged a pioneering partnership with the Agriculture Drone Pilot Programme. This collaboration signifies BOC’s commitment to supporting initiatives that harness technology to empower farmers and revolutionize traditional farming practices. The inaugural deployment of the first cohort of 100 Agriculture Drone Pilots commenced with a pilot drone demonstration operation in the vicinity of Nagolla Rajamaha Viharaya, situated in the North Western Province, on April 23. This event marks a significant milestone in modernising agricultural practices, harnessing the power of technology to enhance efficiency and productivity. Along with the Bank of Ceylon’s financial support and expertise the Agriculture Drone Pilot project is a collaborative effort between Kenilworth International Lanka (Pvt) Ltd MD Kavinda Dissanayake, General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, and Agriculture and Plantation Industries Ministry.

BOC recognises the pivotal role technology plays in modernising agriculture and enhancing the livelihoods of farmers. By partnering with the Agriculture Drone Pilot Programme, BOC aims to equip farmers with the tools and resources they need to thrive in an increasingly digital world. Through access to drone technology and specialized training programmes, farmers can gain valuable insights into crop management, optimise resource utilization, and boost productivity. In addition to empowering farmers with technology, BOC’s partnership with the Agriculture Drone Pilot Programme aims to enhance access to markets for agricultural produce.

By leveraging drone technology for crop monitoring and yield forecasting, farmers can improve the quality and quantity of their produce, thereby enhancing their competitiveness in local and international markets. BOC provides support through market linkages, value chain development and trade finance solutions, enabling farmers to capitalize on new opportunities. BOC’s partnership with the Agriculture Drone Pilot Programme is part of its broader strategy to foster an innovation ecosystem that drives economic growth and social development. The partnership between BOC and the Agriculture Drone Pilot Programme exemplifies a shared commitment to harnessing technology for the benefit of agriculture and rural development. Through financial support, expertise and market access, BOC empowers farmers to embrace innovation, improve productivity and build resilient livelihoods. Several distinguished personalities graced the event with their presence, including Education Minister’s Private Secretary and Former Education Ministry Additional Secretary H.U. Premathilaka, Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation Chairman Dr. Prasad Samarasinghe, Royal College Principal Thilak Wattuhewa, Ananda College Principal Lal Dissanayake, Nalanda College Principal Iran Champika Silva, Sarath Indrathissa, and BOC CMO Sameera D. Liyanage.
