Brawl near bathing spot kills Hardy student

Pamudu Mahesh Madhushanka, a fourth-year student at Hardy College who was receiving treatment at the intensive care unit of Badulla General Hospital following a clash between two group of people, succumbed to his injuries yesterday.

Madhushanka residing in Bibila Medagama along with some of his friends, has come to his relative’s house in Badalkumbure, Moneragala on April 13. Later they came to Kumbukkan-Oya and had an argument with two people who were drinking at that place. There the victim and others have been attacked.

However when they were returning to their relative’s house, the two people who started the dispute came with another group and attacked this group injuring Madushanka seriously.

A group of drunk people have also come to that place. The attackers also obstructed Madhushanka when he was taken to the hospital.

He had been admitted to the Badalkumbura District Hospital first and later transferred to Monaragala District Hospital. He died yesterday evening while receiving treatment at the Badulla General Hospital Intensive Care unit.

Eight suspects who were arrested in connection with this incident have been remanded till April 28.
