The British Minister of State for Indo-Pacific Anne-Marie Trevelyan stated that the British government would continue to assist the demining process in the North and the economic development of the people of Sri Lanka.
Minister Trevelyan visited Jaffna, met Northern Province Governor P.S.M.Charles and discussed the current development activities in Jaffna at length.
She said that the British government has given a large amount of aid to restore the lives of the people of the north after the war and will continue to assist in the future as well.
The minister stated that Britain will provide maximum support to Sri Lanka to become a mine-free country by 2030.
During this visit, the British Minister is expected to observe demining operations in Muhamalai, Kilinochchi and meet politicians from the North and high-level government administrative officials.
The British High Commission in Sri Lanka said this was the first time Anne-Marie Trevelyan has come to Sri Lanka during her official tenure. She arrived in Sri Lanka on October 10 for a three-day official visit during which she will participate in the meeting of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA), which was hosted by Sri Lanka.
