It was recently revealed at the Committee on Public Accounts (COPA) that despite having 79 engineers, the Department of Buildings is not providing proper service.
The COPA under the Chairmanship State Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna met Department officials recently.
The Chairman said that Rs.260 million is spent on salaries for this institution per year, but it is problematic that the expected service is not being provided.
The COPA Chairman informed officials that if the service is not performed properly, a recommendation will made to close the department. The Department of Buildings has the lowest performance among the institutions of the state whose performance was evaluated, he further said.
