Busy schedule for Sri Lankan cricketers in next four months
“We can’t select all performing players to the National side but we have an Emerging team and Sri Lanka ‘A’ teams and it is important to give more chances for the youngsters for this type of cricket to get more International exposure, said chairman of the National cricket selection committee Promodya Wickramasinghe.
Sri Lankan cricketers have a busy schedule during the next four months period which is always good exposure for them said the Chairman of the Cricket Selection Committee.
The National team have to prepare for the Bangladesh two-Test series in May while SLC already planning an England tour for the Emerging team in May. In addition, the Australian National team is scheduled to arrive here for two Tests and five ODI’s next June – July. During the same period, SLC looking to organize Australian ‘A’ team cricket series here for the Sri Lanka ‘A’ team, and all these cricket series are scheduled to be played before Asia Cup and the T-20 world cup which will be played next October – November in Australia.
The ongoing National Super League tournament is a huge success where players are performing well and their performances will be considered for the selections for the Emerging team, Sri Lanka ‘A’ team as well as the National team said Chairman of the Selectors.
Especially some players continue to play exceptionally well in the domestic circuit, but when given the chance, they struggle to convert that success into the international level. We have the same policy for the selection and a fitness test is a must.
He also pointed out in the future Provincial selection committee member will be added for each team of the Provincial tournament to get more attention to the domestic tournament players’ performances.
We already informed all National players that should take part in the domestic tournaments and from the next Super League 4-day matches, national players who were involved in the last Indian series will play the Super League matches.
Meanwhile, SLC is planning to get the services of a foreigner for the post of National head coach and also to create a new post “Assistant Head coach “for the National team and both appointments will be made before the Bangladesh Test series.
