Cabinet extends rice imports till January 10

The Cabinet has approved the extension of rice imports until January 10, 2025. The decision to extend the import permit was made at Monday’s Cabinet meeting.

Accordingly, the private sector is allowed to import rice until January 10, 2025, to address the current rice shortage.

The previous import permit expired on December 20, 2024. A gazette notification regarding the extension is expected to be issued soon. The Government has intervened to streamline the distribution process to avoid delays in rice distribution.
