Cabinet nods to implement Green Hydrogen Technology for Development

Cabinet of Ministers has approved the proposal presented by the President in his capacity as a Minister of Investment Promotion to appoint a project committee comprising of the representatives from the relevant institutions for submission of recommendations to the Cabinet of Ministers after evaluation the investment proposals of the private sector forwarded in respect of Green Hydrogen/Ammonia.

Green Ammonia which has been a value added green hydrogen, has been identified as an environment friendly alternative which can be used instead of traditional fossil fuels for deep sea transport of energy to the long distance.

The demand for commercial green ammonia that can be utilized for transport of energy, is being increased considerably in the global market. It has been predicted that the demand for commercial green ammonia will increase to billions of ton by 2030. There is huge opportunity to establish Sri Lanka as a green energy producer, exporter and Zonal energy hub as to special geographical advantages such as richly availability of renewable energy, adjacently located to the East-West shipping route.
