The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC) recently at a meeting highlighted the valuable service rendered by the Sri Lanka Cancer Society (SLCS) by conducting workshops and seminars to educate people on cancers and said everybody knows that cancer could be preventable with early detection.

The CCC also said the Cancer Society’s dedication towards cancer patients should be commendable.
CEO, CCC Buwanekabahu Perera made these remarks at the SLCS’ annual AGM held in Colombo.
Sri Lanka College of Oncologists’ President Dr. Prasad Abeysinghe, former Supreme Court Justice Shirani Tilakawardena, SLCS, Kandy Branch Vice President Mohan Samarakoon and SLCS, Chairperson Anoja Karunaratne were also present.
He said the Society is not only helping to save the lives of patients but also their families affected by this devastating disease.
“Cancer has no boundaries, it does not care about age, economic status or gender of persons and it is a disease that shatters patients and also their families,” he said.
The CEO further said that the Cancer Society has been a beacon of support as it provides a nurturing environment for cancer patients.
He said the Cancer Society’s objective is to reduce the burden of cancer through education and prevention and highlighted the society’s commitment and the dedication to prevent this disease by conducting counselling and organising community events.
The CEO predicted that one day cancer will no longer be a cause for fear and said we hope to create a world where cancer is no longer a death sentence, but a manageable disease, so that we could make a difference in the lives of those affected by the disease.
He said even youngsters are keen to donate money to minimize this disease and reminded that his 16-year olds son organised a musical show recently and donated all profits to the Sri Lanka Cancer Society.
