Car crashes into tree killing one

A participant was killed and two others seriously injured when the car they were travelling crashed into a tree.

The incident occurred after an old boys cricket match played at a School ground in the Galnewa area on Sunday.  

The injured were admitted to the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital.

The driver of the car who was also injured had fled the scene, Police said. Mithum Jayanath, a 25-year-old youth and resident of Galnewa died in the accident.

Police investigations are continuing to arrest the driver of the vehicle.
