A book titled Press vs Prez providing insights into how newspaper cartoonists portrayed President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s unique role in steering the country through economic turmoil, will be officially launched at the Nelum Pokuna Theatre in Colombo today, at 4:00 pm.
The event will be graced by the patronage of President Wickremesinghe himself.
The compilation has been curated by Vajira Abeywardena, Member of Parliament and Chairman of the United National Party.
Since President Wickremesinghe took office as a member of the Ninth Parliament on June 23, 2021, this collection has been curated by gathering approximately 600 cartoons from newspapers that depict his leadership journey up until May 2023.
Forty cartoonists and around twenty journalists have contributed their works to this compilation. Furthermore, the ceremony will also acknowledge the contributions of the cartoonists and television anchors who presented these cartoons on TV. Indian cartoonist Nala Ponnappa will grace the book launch as a special guest and will deliver a noteworthy speech, adding a unique perspective to the event.
Professor Rohan Nettasinghe is slated to deliver a critical lecture, providing valuable insights and analysis on the content of the book, enriching the audience’s understanding of its significance.
Former Presidents, Ministers, Members of the Parliament, foreign ambassadors, journalists, and closest friends of President Wickremesinghe have been invited to attend this event.
