Case against Damitha,‘Ratta’ seven others fixed for Oct.9

A case filed against nine persons including actress Damitha Abeyratne, General Secretary of Ceylon Teachers Union Joseph Stalin, Rathindu Senaratne alias ‘Ratta’,  Ven. Thampitiye Sugathananda Thera, Ven. Thenne Gnanananda Thera for allegedly blocking the main entrance to the Fort Magistrate’s Court, was today fixed for October 9 by Colombo Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage. Six suspects on bail, including Damitha Abeyratne, Rathindu Senaratne alias ‘Ratta’, Ven. Thampitiye Sugathananda Thera, and Ven. Thenne Gnanananda Thera was present in Court yesterday.

The panel of lawyers representing the suspects informed the Court that Joseph Stalin, who has been released on bail, has undergone surgery.

Also, the lawyers informed the Court that Jagath Manuvarna, who was released on bail was expected to return to the island yesterday, and the Magistrate ordered the issuance of warrants to the fourth suspect, Dhammika, who failed to appear in Court when the case was called. Meanwhile, the Court directed the Police to submit an investigation report regarding this incident on the next hearing date.
