Case against former DIG Vass Gunawardena fixed for Jan. 24

The case filed against former DIG Vass Gunawardena for allegedly extorting money by threatening a person with death, was yesterday fixed for trial on January 24, 2024, by the Gampaha High Court.

When the case was taken up before Gampaha High Court Judge Mapa Bandara, Attorney-at-Law Rahul Ruwanara Jayathilaka appearing for the defence informed the court that all the documents pertaining to the case have been received and that the trial can be commenced.

The Attorney General had filed the case in 2020 against former DIG Vaas Gunawardena for allegedly committing a punishable offence under the provisions of the Penal Code by threatening to kill Sarath Kumara Edirisinghe and taking Rs. 1, 480, 000 by force between April 1 and June 2013.
