Sri Lanka are set to recall former captain Charith Asalanka along with Matheesha Pathirana, Dunith Wellalage and Dhananjaya de Silva for the upcoming three-match home T20 International series against Pakistan next month, the Sunday Times reported.

Asalanka’s recall follows his absence from the recent Pakistan Tri-Series and the subsequent loss of the T20I captaincy, with selectors opting to back his experience despite modest returns this year. Pathirana is expected to strengthen the bowling after his strong performances in the ILT20, while Wellalage also returns after missing the Tri-Series. Test captain Dhananjaya de Silva is set for a surprise comeback to the T20I side as selectors look to add stability to a fragile middle order.

Newcomer Traveen Mathews is set to earn a maiden call-up following his impressive performances at the Asia Cup Rising Stars tournament.

According to the report, batters Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Pavan Ratnayake, along with leg-spinner Vijayakanth Viyaskanth, have been omitted from the squad. The team has reportedly been submitted for approval to the Minister of Sports. Sri Lanka will also host England for a three-match T20I series after the Pakistan games as preparations continue for the T20 World Cup, which Sri Lanka will co-host with India. (Newswire)
