Chikungunya infected children are being reported these days, said Dr. Deepal Perera, a specialist at the Lady Ridgeway Children’s Hospital in Colombo, yesterday (28).
The disease is spread by the dengue mosquito vectors Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus, and the disease can be cured by resting and taking paracetamol in the prescribed dosage, he said.
He said that the symptoms of chikungunya include fever, severe joint pain, muscle pain with fever, and darkening of the skin on the surface of the nose, and that this disease is prevalent among adults and has a tendency to spread to children.
In addition to this disease, dengue and childhood malaria are also prevalent among children, he said.
He also stated that the spread of these diseases can be prevented by keeping the environment where he lives clean so that mosquitoes cannot spread it.
