Chinese Construction Company engaged in the Wayaba—Ela project has taken steps to construct a playground at Galapaula in Galewela area so that rural children have the opportunity to practice their sports, since so far they have not had any suitable facilities to do so.
After completion of the construction work of the playground, the children living in neighbouring villages could also practice here.
In the meantime, a large granite pit had been dug to provide metal to carpet the road about five decades ago which is lying from Beligamuwa to Dambulla. It stretched for about 22 kilometres. Now, this abandoned quarry is to be filled with earth dumping along the Wayaba-Ela canal bund to construct the anticipated playground.
In this connection, the relevant authorities have given approval for this purpose. Meanwhile, about Rs. 5 million has been estimated for the construction of the playground..
